0 to Z of Playstation 1 Games - Adidas Power Soccer 2
Adidas Power Soccer 2 is a
football based sports game developed by French based developer Shen
Technologies, the game was published by former development company Psygnosis,
and was released Exclusively in Europe in 1997
Adidas Power Soccer 2 is the second main line game of the
Adidas Power Soccer franchise and would be the last main line game in the
series, Overall the new development studio didn’t make too many changes to the
formula that world well in the first game, with updated player and team rosters
for the 97/98 season including many real teams, and additionally 56 national
teams were added, the crazy arcade mode returns as well with new special moves
added.
The games features commentary from Brain Moore for the UK
version, Yves Lecoq commentates on the French version of the game and Marcel
Reif is the commentator for the German edition of the game, multiplayer was
also available for up to four players with a multitap.
Football game no story present
Reviews for this 1997 release are
had to come by so are user ratings of the game with GameFAQs having just one a
2.5/5, critic reviews are fairly hard to come by as well, with just three to
choose from, a couple of these reviews are positive though, German publication
Video Games giving the game a solid 83/100 again like the previous version
however they did criticize the repetitive and often unrelated commentary in the
game.
French review outlet Consoles Plus
did not have too much to say in their 81/100 review they are quoted as saying,
If you have ISS, keep it. Regarding the purchase of Power Soccer 2, think a
little more.
The only English review is could
find comes from NowGamer, who also awarded the game the lowest score from the
three reviews available, with NowGamer quoted as saying, Power soccer was
hugely overrated the first time around and is now getting its just desserts.
Two years ago this could have passed for entertainment, but in the face of
superior competition, it hides sheepishly in the dugout. Go for Actua 2 or FIFA
’98 instead.
The game was on for an average
rating of 82% however that NowGamer review has brought down the games average
rating to a 75.6%, decent but is starting to show its cracks as a series, and
clearly the gimmick is not keeping up with other football games.
This is the part of 0 to Z where
is visit five online retailers and see what the availability of the title is,
and what price you would be looking at if you wanted to pick this title up, the
sites that I will be using for this are Amazon.com, eStarland.com,
retrogames.co.uk and Gamedude.com I know the last one is very location specific,
but from a podcast I listen to I’ve heard they have a huge stock of older
games, I will also be including Ebay.com as well
So lets get down to business with Gamedude,
who along with eStarland.com and Retrogames.co.uk don’t stock this game in any
form disc, complete, used or new so we move onto Amazon.com who as well to no
surprise don’t stock this European only release.
So we switch to the co.uk version
of Amazon where the game is available but definitely not as abundant as
previous versions, with just seven copies of the game on sale with a starting
price for a copy of the game sitting at £8.87 +£4.08 for shipping, so a total
of £12.95 this is for a complete, very good quality copy of the game, this
price converts to $16.65 in the US, in the Euro region it will set you back €14.22, while in Uzbekistan it will cost you 69330.7 Uzbekistani
Som, please also be aware you need a PAL console to play this game.
A slightly cheaper copy is
available however this is only an acceptable quality copy of the game, at the
other end of the price spectrum, a used like new copy of the game will set you
back around the £20 mark, while if you are in the market for a new copy you are
looking at a minimum of £40, currently there is only one new copy available on
Amazon.co.uk, this price converts to, 214148.9 Uzbekistani Som, in the Euro
region it will cost €44.03 and in the US you will be looking at an outlay of
around $51.
Ebay.com is slightly cheaper than
Amazon for a used copy of Adidas Power Soccer 2 with two copies currently
available for a price of $5.13 this comes with free international shipping as well,
this price converts to £3.99 in the UK, in Euro countries you will be looking
at €4.39, while in Uzbekistan it will cost you 21311.8 Uzbekistani
Som.
This is the cheapest you will find
a used copy of the game for on Ebay.com with other copies being hammered by the
shipping costs, a new copy of the game is available however , this as well
comes with free international shipping and is priced much cheaper than Amazon
again, coming in at a price of $25.69 pretty much half the price compared to
the Amazon copy.
