Alex Ferguson's Player
Manager 2001 is a football management sim released on the Playstation in 2000,
the game was developed by the late Anco Software and Published by The 3DO
Company and Ubisoft, the game also went under two different names, in France it
was known as Guy Roux Manager 2001 and in Germany it was known as DSF Fussball
Manager 2001, the game was a cross generation title appearing on the
Playstation 2, the game was also scheduled to have PC release in late 2001 but
that was cancelled.
In Alex Ferguson’s Player
Manager 2001, you take on the role of a manager at a team in either English,
French or Belgian leagues as well as subdivisions, starting In 2001, your job
at your chosen club includes setting the teams formation, planning training
sessions for your players, attracting new you talent to your team, taking care
of the clubs financial situations and of course winning your matches.
During the course of a season
you will be given specific goals to achieve, from qualifying for the champions
league, defending the clubs reputation as well as winning friendlies and cup
matches, during an actual match you can watch the action in real-time 3D in the
games brand new match engine allowing you to make on the spot decisions like
tactical tweaks and substitutions to help your team win.
Football management game no story or story mode present
Reviews for the Playstation 1 version of this game are
impossible to find so we head to GameFAQs
for their user ratings, one thing of note the Playstation 1 version is
more highly rated than the PS2 version of the game, the PS1 version of the game
is rated at 3.67/5 from a total of 6 user ratings.
With a pretty even split when it comes to individual user
ratings with 2 users each rating the game a 3/5 or a 5/5 the 2 remaining users
awarded a rating of 2.5/5 and 3.5/5, moving on to difficulty where the majority
of the 6 users who rated this category rating the game as just right, the
remaining users rated the game as being tough.
Onto lifespan, one less user rated this category so only 5
users in total, with a good spread of playtimes for this game, with 1 user each
rating the games lifespan at either 4 hours, 20 hours or 40 hours, the remaining 2 users rating the games lifespan at
12 hours, with the average lifespan for this game coming in at just under 18
hours.

retrogames.co.uk and Gamedude.com I know the last one is very location specific,
but from a podcast I listen to I’ve heard they have a huge stock of older
games, I will also be including Ebay.com as well
So lets get down to business with Gamedude,
along with eStarland.com unsurprisingly don’t have this game in stock, so we
head to Retrogames.co.uk who do have the game in stock, a used copy in
excellent condition this will set you back £5 this is for a PAL version of the
game (See bottom of page of release regions) .
Moving on to Amazon.com who do
have a couple of copies on sale, both are brand new copies of the game and
baring a cent are the same price with both copies setting you back $70.95 once
you add in shipping costs, please also bare in mind these are PAL only
releases.
Heading over to the co.uk version
of Amazon where a handful of copies are available new and used, starting with
the used copies with a very good quality used copy on the market for £4.14 that
price is with the shipping costs added in, this converts to $5.34 in the US, in
the Euro region countries it will cost you €4.53, while in
Kenya it will set you back 550.40 Kenyan Shilling.
A couple of new copies are
available as well, for considerably cheaper than the two copies on sale on the
dot com version of the site with the two copies priced at £14.98 and £14.99
before shipping costs, the cheapest of the two does not ship to the US, however
the £14.99 copy does ship to the US with a £4 shipping fee, this comes to a
total of £18.99, which converts to $24.49 in the US, in Euro zone countries it
will cost you €20.78 while in Kenya you are looking at a price of 2524.47

Ebay.com has a brand new copy of
the game on sale as well, this copy comes with free international shipping and
is priced at $23.13, a good quality used copy can be picked up for $4.50 this
does however have a $3 shipping fee, a couple of cheaper copies priced at $6.42
do come with free international shipping, as well as a disc and manual only
copy that is priced at $3.84 this also comes with free international shipping
if you are not bothered about a case.
