0 to Z of Playstation 1 Games - Animal Snap

Animal Snap is a puzzle games based off the popular Chinese game of Mahjong the game developed by Ignition Entertainment and AIA USA and was published by Ignition Entertainment for PlayStation, the game was released exclusively in Europe on the 19th of September 2003, the game also released on the Game Boy Advance.

Like Mahjong the player must remove two matching tiles in the case of this game with pictures of animals rather than the usual Chinese symbols that appear on Mahjong, like Mahjon if a tile is bordered by tiles on both the right and left i t cannot be selected.

Tiles above or below don't pose a problem. You must clear each of the 10 levels before the time limit. There are special clock tiles that add 10 seconds to the clock. Remove tiles that spell "bonus" to uncover a shooter minigame think space invaders style game but shooting blocks rather than aliens.

Mahjong style puzzle game with no real story the premise of the game is the player is trying to get the animals home.

This being a very late release in the Playstations life and reviews for this game are next to impossible to find, there is one critic review for the GBA version which is a lowly 20% for more data we head over to GameFAQs for their user data.

The game is currently sitting at a 3.33/5 from a total of eight user ratings, the game received some good ratings with one user each giving the game a 5/5 and a 4.5/5 respectively a couple of users gave the game a good 4/5 with another awarding the game a 3/5, there are some low ratings for the game though which have brought down the average with one user each giving the game a 1.5, 2 or 2.5 out of five.

The games difficulty up next with seven users rating this category with three users rating the game as easy the remaining four are split evenly between simple and just right difficulty. The games length is on the short side with five users rating this category with one spending less than an hour with the game another couple spent less than two hours with it, while the remaining two spent around eight hours in total.

This is the part of 0 to Z where is visit four online retailers and see what the availability of the title is, and what price you would be looking at if you wanted to pick this title up, the sites that I will be using for this are Amazon.com, eStarland.com, retrogames.co.uk and Gamedude.com I know the last one is very location specific, but from a podcast I listen to, I’ve heard they have a huge stock of older games, Ebay has now been dropped unless the game is unavailable at other retailers.

So lets get down to business with Gamedude who don’t stock the title neither do Retrogames.co.uk, eStarland.com don’t stock the Playstation version of the game they do however stock the Game Boy Advance version which is priced at between $3.30 and $4.13 for an incomplete used copy.

Amazon.com don’t stock this title so we head to the co.uk version of the site where we find not an overly abundant amount of copies but still pretty cheap with a complete used copy in good condition available for £2.30 once shipping is added in, a very good condition used copy you are looking at around £5 for a copy, while a new copy will set you back around the £17 once you have added in the shipping costs.
