10 of the Worst Microtransactions in Games
10
of the Worst Microtransactions in Games
1: Dungeon Keeper Mobile
Time mechanic based microtransactions
are scum where the player has to wait a set time in order to continue playing
the game usually this is minutes or at most a few hours, Dungeon Keeper mobile
took this to a new extreme with players having to wait days unless you stump up
cash to advance time. A game so infested with microtransactions that it has
even received media coverage from the likes of the BBC, the game also received
criticism from Dungeon Keepers original creator Peter Molyneux,
2: Dead Space 3
Should really just be 10 times EA
fucked over their players and they certainly did with Dead Space 3 by adding microtransactions
that constantly pop up when you are out of scrap , which is needed to craft new
weapons and parts granted you can earn scrap in game either by collecting it yourself
or sending out scavenger bots but the moment you can not afford a part that message
will pop up again trying to get you to spend more money.
3: NBA2K18
From that god awful Spike Lee story
in NBA2K15 2k games have somehow managed to turn what was one hell of a basket ball
game into a microtransactions based cesspit all you have to do is google NBA2K18
microtransactions and the first site listed is Kotaku and their title reads NBA2K18 Is Riddled With microtransactions.
4: NHL 12 & 13
What is worse than a microtransactions,
a microtransactions that you pay for and don’t get anything in return, that is
what happened with NHL 12 and 13 with players who were buying HUT microtransactions
packs in order to build their ultimate team were not receiving the packs they
had purchased, and as far as I know EA didn’t bother fixing this.
5: Evolve
Could have been something special
however when you let slimy 2K games get a hold of it you know you are in
trouble this $60 or £40 game not that you can call it a game with so much of it
being locked away behind microtransactions. Of course the game has the
obligatory season pass N4G worked out the value of the season pass at $29.96
for a price of $24.99.
You can of course buy the four
playable characters that come in the season pass separately for $7.49 each
which Is just short of another $30 on top of the $60 you paid for the game plus
another $15 dollars for the fourth monster the The Behemoth, plus a whole hell
of a lot more microtransactions as well but this is giving me a headache so we
will move on.
6: Train Simulator 15
A game who’s DLC content has been
priced at between $2000 and $4000 to buy it all with individual pieced of DLC
frequently priced at $20 go to the Train Simulator Steam page and currently you
will find over 400 pieces of DLC which now reach a staggering $4500.
7: Star Wars Battlefront 2
Yes EA are back after a brief trip
to several other cesspit's we return to the king of them all EA with Star Wars
Battlefront 2 the highly anticipated follow up to the underwhelming Stars Wars
Battlefront from 2015, you know the follow up that EA said they were listening
to the criticisms and were going to give us the Battlefront we wanted. Never
believe a word out of someone that even looks at an EA building never mind
someone who works for them.
8: Middle Earth Shadow of War
I love The Lord of the Rings
universe and I loved the original Shadow of Mordor with its nemesis system
which brought something fresh and exciting to the open world genre of games
sadly what made Shadow of Mordor new and interesting has been perverted by Warner
Bros making the nemesis system pretty much surplus to requirements with orc now
being available in Loot Boxes and don’t get me started on that god damn orc
merchant nothing has annoyed me this much since Tony Blair dragged Britain into
a pointless war.
9: Fifa
Not ruined as you can enjoy the
main game of Fifa it is on this list for the sheer amount of money it makes EA
through the microtransactions for its Ultimate Team mode where you get pack of
cards to build up your ultimate team with EA raking in an estimated $650
million from the Ultimate Team microtransactions.
10: Forza 7
Of course Microsoft have to get
in on the action with the XBOX flagship motorsport game Forza 7 now containing
loot boxes and taking one of the key features of the game in which the player
could modify various effect in order to gain more credits which were then used
to unlock various cars in game with absolutely no microtransactions to
interfere.
That system worked well but not
well enough for publishing vermin who have changed that system to mod cards
which are now randomized in loot boxes while at the moment these look boxes are
not microtransaction based, there have been many rumours and hints that this is
the plan.
Unhonourable Mentions
Staring with Candy Crush and the
buying of new lives after your daily limit has been used up and in general most
mobile games, Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain and its base insurance and
also to get a Fuckonami in as well, and Finally Overwatch which made the whole
loot boxes and microtransactions the norm, and to Team Fortress 2 which is
credited with starting the whole loot box crap.
