Gone But Not Forgotten Video Game Developers/Publishers Lost 2000-2017 - ASC Games

ASC Games abbreviated from American Softworks Corporation was a publisher based in Darien, Connecticut  in the 90s mostly focussing on the NES the SNES and the Sega Genesis, the company was in business from 1992 until their eventual closure in January of 2000.

The cause of the companies demise was their latest project a first and third person action game called Werewolf: The Apocalypse – The Heart of Gaia, which was being developed by BetaSoft Games, repeated delays and setbacks in the games development resulted in ASC suffering serious financial issues resulting in their eventual demise.

During the eight years in business ASC has several notable releases including the MS-DOS and  windows ports of the very first Grand Theft Auto game back in 1997, as well as the 1998 isometric point and click horror adventure game Sanitarium the game was quite well received with the game sitting on GameRankings with a rating of 83.22%, the game was not without issues however with a major game breaking but in early shipments of the game needing a patch to fix with issues still occasionally reported after the patch.

Sanitarium received a re-release in 2015 on IOS the game was released by DotEmu to fairly decent reviews, while never receiving a sequel to the series in 2013 one of the games original programmers launched a Kickstarter for a spiritual successor to the game called Shades of Sanity, sadly however the game was unable to reach its Kickstarter goal.

1998 saw Sanitarium one of the companies biggest releases

In 2015, a Kickstarter funded adventure game called Stasis was released by a South African independent studio The Brotherhood, and has been compared to Sanitarium.
