Gone But Not Forgotten Video Game Developers/Publishers Lost 2000-2017 - ASC Games
ASC Games abbreviated
from American Softworks Corporation was a publisher based in Darien,
Connecticut in the 90s mostly focussing
on the NES the SNES and the Sega Genesis, the company was in business from 1992
until their eventual closure in January of 2000.
The cause of the
companies demise was their latest project a first and third person action game called Werewolf: The Apocalypse – The Heart
of Gaia, which was being developed by BetaSoft Games, repeated delays and
setbacks in the games development resulted in ASC suffering serious financial
issues resulting in their eventual demise.

During the eight
years in business ASC has several notable releases including the MS-DOS and windows ports of the very first Grand Theft
Auto game back in 1997, as well as the 1998 isometric point and click horror
adventure game Sanitarium the game was quite well received with the game
sitting on GameRankings with a rating of 83.22%, the game was not without
issues however with a major game breaking but in early shipments of the game
needing a patch to fix with issues still occasionally reported after the patch.
ASC games released the MS-DOS and windows ports of Grand Theft Auto
Sanitarium received a
re-release in 2015 on IOS the game was released by DotEmu to fairly decent
reviews, while never receiving a sequel to the series in 2013 one of the games
original programmers launched a Kickstarter for a spiritual successor to the
game called Shades of Sanity, sadly however the game was unable to reach its Kickstarter
goal.

In 2015, a Kickstarter funded adventure game called Stasis was released
by a South African independent studio The Brotherhood, and has been compared to
Sanitarium.
