0 to Z of Playstation 1 Games - 2002 Fifa World Cup
2002 FIFA World Cup also sometimes referred to as FIFA World
Cup 2002 and is the second official EA Sports World Cup tie in game, developed
by EA Canada, Creations and veteran developers Intelligent Games assisting with
the 6th generation versions of the games which would be the
developers penultimate game before closing their doors, Tose Software also
assisted with the development of the GameCube version of the game.
The game was a cross generation title appearing on the Playstation
2 the XBOX and the GameCube as well as
the 5th generation Playstation 1, the game uses an amalgamation of FIFA
Football 2002 and Fifa Football 2003’s engine, unlike previous games in the FIFA
Football series this game had it’s own original soundtrack which was composed
by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
The game suffered some controversy when Bayern Munich and
Germany international goalkeeper Oliver Kahn who successfully sued Electronic
Arts for their inclusion of him in the game without his prior consent, even though
EA reached an agreement with FIFPro, the body that represents all FIFA players,
as a result EA were banned from selling copies of the game in Germany and
forced to financially compensate Kahn.
An amalgamation between the game engines of FIFA Football
2002 and FIFA Football 2003, the game still incorporates the power bar for
shots and crosses but with a steeper learning curve and customisation of the
chances of being penalised by the match referee. Some kits are licensed, along
with player likeness and the stadia of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Sports game no story present.
On GameRankings.com the Playstation 1 version of the game is
aggregating the lowest of all the versions available it did however receive
some good reviews Official Playstation Magazine gave the game a 4/5 but were critical
of attacking players lack of motivation, while PSX Nation awarded the game a
solid 82/100 they were positive and critical at the same time stating A stripped-down rehash of the excellent "FIFA
2002.
There were however some big dips in the review scores for
this World Cup tie in GameSpot only awarding the game and above average 68/100 while
they did praise the overall gameplay they did say the game just lacks too many
secondary features--both in comparison with "FIFA 2002" and even with
other versions of 2002 FIFA World Cup--to make it worthwhile for anyone but the
biggest World Cup fan, Irish Player were also critical of the game giving it
just a 4.5/10.
This is the part of 0 to Z where is visit four online
retailers and see what the availability of the title is, and what price you
would be looking at if you wanted to pick this title up the sites that I will
be using for this are Amazon.com, eStarland.com,
retrogames.co.uk and Gamedude.com I know the last one is very location specific
but from a podcast I listen too I have heard they have a huge stock of older
games, I will also be including Ebay.com from now on.
So lets get down to business we may as well start with
Gamedude, who will give you $8 if you want to trade in your copy of 2002 Fifa
World Cup, while if you are in the market for a copy of the game you will be
looking at a $17 outlay for a used copy of the game, that equates to about £13
in the UK (if you have a North American Console).
Retrogames.co.uk has copies of the Playstation 2 and
GameCube versions of the game however the Playstation 1 version of the game is
not stocked for the alternative console versions you are looking at between £3
to £4 for a used copy, a mint version of the GameCube version will set you back
£12 which is about $15.
eStarland.com have a used complete copy of the game
available for $9.50 which is just over £7, you can also trade in your copy of
the game which will get you $3.50 which is about £2.60.
Amazon.com as of the time of writing this has no new copies
of the game available it does have 8 used copies available for sale starting
at $5.64 for an acceptable condition
copy of the game, one that does jump out a used copy in very good condition for
$7.96 + $4.84 for shipping, for a like new copy of the game you will be looking
at a minimum of $16.89 + shipping which is about £13.
Over on Ebay.com just the disc will set you back from
between $4.99 up to $9.99 a couple of used cased copies are priced up
at $9.99 which is about £7.60, there are also a couple of brand new copies of
the game both factory sealed which will set you back $44.32 and $50.00 respectively
which converts to roughly £34 and £38 in the UK, (I have been using the .com
version of Amazon and Ebay so these games are for North American versions of
the Playstation 1 if you are wanting to buy these games in the UK, go to the
.co.uk versions of these sites)
