0 to Z of Playstation 1 Games - 4-4-2 Soccer

4-4-2 Soccer is a sports game released in 1997 it was developed by Arc Developments and published by Virgin Interactive, the game was released exclusively in

4-4-2 soccer as you have probably realised is a football game think of the good sensible soccer style games but not as good that sticky foot style top down football game.

This is a 1997 football game, what is a story

Reviews for this title are hard to come by once again I head to GameFAQs for some user ratings, with a total of seven user ratings the game has averaged out at a 3/5 so a 6/10 or a 60/100 with two users rating the game at a 3/5 and 3.25/5 with one user rating the game a 1.5/5 and 2.5/5 one user also gave the game a favourable 4/5.

NowGamer that do not have a score for the game summarised the game as ou’d think that because of the uncluttered ‘sticky ball’ control system 4-4-2 would really flow, but alas, the slowdown is utterly deplorable, especially after the goalie kicks the ball up-field.

This crippling shortcoming is doubly unforgivable when you look at how small and sparsely detailed each player is. You can barely make out the glorious colours of Leeds United from any of the seven camera settings. The stadium view makes the players look like ants and consequently makes the game unplayable.

They did have a few good points though,  On a lighter note, the kicking system is pretty good, in that you can pass, shoot or chip with one button (including volleys and overhead kicks) a la Sensi and the overall pace of the game is pretty good.

This is the part of 0 to Z where is visit five online retailers and see what the availability of the title is, and what price you would be looking at if you wanted to pick this title up, the sites that I will be using for this are Amazon.com,  eStarland.com, retrogames.co.uk and Gamedude.com I know the last one is very location specific but from a podcast I listen to and  I have heard they have a huge stock of older games, I will also be including Ebay.com as well

So lets get down to business with Gamedude as you would expect for a Europe only release Gamedude do not stock the game likewise eStarland.com don’t stock the game either, surprisingly Retrogames.co.uk don’t stock a copy of the game neither do Ebay.

Moving over to Amazon and copies of 4-4-2 Soccer are hard to come by currently only four copies are available for sale three used copies and one new copy, the used copies start at £5.55 + £1.19 for shipping this is a good quality copy of the game.

A used very good quality of the game will set you back £5.47 + £2.03 for shipping those copies if you are in North America it will set you back $8.74 and $9.73 or if you are in the EU it will cost you 7.46 and €8.30

This is where the prices shoot up and shoot up rapidly the next copy on sale is a used like new copy that will set you back £44.62, which is €49.36 in the EU and $57.89 in North America, this copy comes with free shipping and has been professionally cleaned according to the seller.

The one new copy of the game on sale takes another big jump in price this new copy will set you back £71.47 + £5.60 for shipping costs.
